What is Ponto?
Ponto is the provider behind the technology that powers your bank connection. Once your bank account is linked to The Bookie via Ponto, your transactions are automatically imported into your bank book — so you no longer have to download and upload them yourself.
Please note: this connection is included by default with a B.V. subscription, and is available on request for VOFs and foundations (stichtingen). This feature is not (yet) available for sole proprietorships (eenmanszaken). Want it anyway? Get in touch with your Bookie — additional costs apply.
Step 1: Create a Ponto account
In Ponto, under "Account", add your bank account and follow the steps. You'll log in with your own bank to confirm the connection.
In Ponto, under "Billing", add a bank account to pay the monthly Ponto fee.
Step 2: Link Ponto to The Bookie
Once your bank account is set up in Ponto, link Ponto to The Bookie:
In the Webapp, go to your Account settings, Integrations tab.
Click "Install Ponto" and grant The Bookie permission to read your Ponto data.
Then go to your bank settings (bottom left in the menu under 'Bank', then 'Settings' in the top right). See a green dot next to your bank account? Then the connection is active.
Click "Sync bank account" and enter the date from which you want to retroactively retrieve transactions. Usually this is 1 January of the current year.
Please note: some banks only allow you to look back up to 90 days. Missing older transactions? Talk to your Bookie about using an MT940 file to bring in the rest.
Once active, The Bookie automatically syncs 4 times a day: around 8:00, 14:00, 20:00, and 2:00.
Step 3: Reauthorize regularly
A bank connection doesn't stay active forever on its own — banks require you to renew your authorization periodically.
When it's time, you'll automatically get notified, both by email and via a notification in the Webapp. Under Bank in the left-hand menu, you can also check whether your account(s) are currently active.
Click "Reauthorize" to keep the connection active.
Tip: act on this quickly — the longer you wait, the more transactions you'll miss, which you'll then have to add manually later.
Common issues
I don't see a green dot next to my bank account.
Then the connection isn't active (yet). Check whether you missed the reauthorization email, or go through the connection steps above again.
Transactions are missing.
First check whether you completed the initial sync with the correct start date. Are the missing transactions older than 90 days? That may be due to your bank's limit — talk to your Bookie about using an MT940 file.
I didn't get an email or notification to reauthorize, but the connection stopped working.
Check your spam folder, and also check your notifications inside the Webapp itself — sometimes a connection quietly stops working in the background without the alert coming through properly. If that happens, go through the reauthorization step manually via your bank settings.
I see duplicate transactions.
This can happen if transactions for the same period were imported both automatically via Ponto and manually (for example via an MT940 file). Contact your Bookie about this so the duplicate entries can be removed.
Where do I find this in the Webapp?
Account: Administration settings → Integrations tab
Ponto → Install
Status and syncing: left-hand menu Bank → Settings (top right)
Costs
On top of the maintenance of your bank book by your Bookie (costs by arrangement, since a connection means extra checking work), Ponto itself charges €4 per account per month for the sync.
